OVERTIME

OVERTIME RULES (Age 13+):

Modified EBI Overtime rules. Any match whose regulation match time ends without a Submission (or disqualification or forfeiture) in regulation time moves into Overtime with no break or time out unless deemed necessary by the referee.

Any competitor who cannot answer the call to immediately participate in the overtime round will be disqualified.

Overtime consists of athletes starting in two specific Overtime Positions (Back Mount with Seatbelt or Spiderweb Armbar) from which the athletes will attack and defend submissions. Each competitor will get a turn to try to attack for a submission. The competitor who can secure a submission during their respective attacking overtime round while also successfully escaping during their defending overtime round will be the victor.

At the beginning of Overtime Cycle, the Referee will flip a coin to determine which competitor will choose to attack or defend first. The order of the Overtime Cycle (with the exception of Youth competitors and the final black belt match of the night is): Back Control -> Spiderweb Armbar -> Sudden Death Takedown.

Each Overtime Cycle will consist of each competitor having the opportunity to both attack and defend from the chosen Overtime Position. If there is no winner after the first Overtime Cycle, the competitor who lost the coin toss will choose the next Overtime Position for the next Cycle. If after two full Overtime Cycles there is no winner, the competitors will be put into a Sudden Death Takedown round.

Note: The referee will always allow the fight to continue as-long-as the attacking competitor has a threat of a submission. Therefore, the attacking competitor may chain as many submission attempts together as he/she would like from the Overtime Position. As long as there is a direct submission threat, the round will continue.

The two Overtime Positions are as follows:

Back Control with Seatbelt Grip
Competitors will begin in a seated back control position upright with both hooks and a seat belt grip. The attacking competitor’s seatbelt should be at center chest (not around the neck). The defending competitor may have their hands in place on the seatbelt grip and chin tucked before the ref begins the round. Once the round begins the body triangle may be applied, but not before.

Spiderweb Armbar Position
Competitors will begin with the defending competitor lying down belly-up with one of the attacking competitor’s arm hooked, crook of elbow to crook of elbow, on the defending competitor’s near side arm, and the attacking competitor’s second hand resting palm-down on the floor on the head side of the bottom competitor’s body. The opponent defending the position may have their arms in any defensive configuration they desire below the elbow.

Sudden Death Takedown Round
Competitors will begin on the feet.
a) whoever get the first takedown wins.
b) a takedown requires 3 seconds of control and is awarded to whoever has TOP control
c) if you attempt a sacrifice throw and it fails, the competitor with top 3 sec. control wins
d) a snap down to a go behind or to side turtle position counts as a takedown
e) if you initiate a takedown and your opponent re-rolls and ends up on top for 3 seconds, the takedown will be awarded to the person on top for 3 second control
f) if you pull guard, you have 3 seconds to sweep your opponent or you will lose
g) submissions keep the round live until someone is safely in top control for 3 seconds
